Reds Fall To Cards 7-1
The Cincinnati Reds lose to the Cardinals 7-1 in St Louis.
Another game another poor performance by the Cincinnati Reds tonight in St. Louis. Tonight nothing could go right for the Reds. The offense was anemic and the bullpen was unable to stop the Cardinals scoring.
In the third inning the Reds scored their only when Aristides Aquino scored off a fielders choice by Shogo Akiyama.
Reds only got three hits on the night. Joey Votto was 1-4, Jose Garcia was 1-1, and Kyle Farmer also had a hit for the Reds. Joey Votto was ejected from the game in the 9th inning arguing balls and strikes as frustrations continue to boil over on this disappointing season.
The pitching from the Reds was not much better. TJ Antone went 3 innings giving up 2 runs on 4 hits. The bullpen though could not keep the Reds in it either giving up an additional 5 runs. Lucas Sims gave up 3 runs in 2 innings, Amir Garret gave up an additional 2 runs in 1 inning in another disappointing outing by the Reds.
The Reds fall to 20-26 on the year and are now 3.5 games out of 2nd place in the National League Central. They are currently 3 games back of the Marlins for the final playoff spot in the National League as the Marlins are 21-21. However, the Rockies, Brewers, and Mets are all ahead of the Reds in the race for that final spot.
If the Reds are to comeback and sneak their way into the post season they must go on a significant winning streak of at least 5 games and avoid losing more than 1 game in a row in their final 14 games. While they are not officially out of the race they have not yet played consistently well in this unusual shortened season. They wrap up their series tomorrow in St Louis as Tyler Mahle (1-2, 3.49 ERA) goes up against Carlos Martinez (0-2, 12.27 ERA). First pitch is at 2:15pm ET and will be broadcast on Fox Sports Ohio
